The famous painter Mucha (1860-1939) came from the Czech Republic, but became famous in Paris. At the end of the 19th century, Paris was a hotbed of the 'belle époque'. It was a golden age in the field of art. Art Nouveau is inextricably linked to this period.

Breakthrough in Paris

Typical of Mucha's work are women with long, luxuriant locks and graceful lines. Out and out Art Nouveau. This flamboyant style was often used in advertising and publicity posters. A fate that befalls some artists is that they only become famous after their death. This was certainly not the case with Mucha. In his time he was already well known. He made his breakthrough with a poster for the play Gismonde with the French actress Sarah Bernhardt in the leading role. At the time, she was the star of the Parisian theatre. His work was unprecedentedly popular and it was not long before posters designed by him were being looted from the streets.

Source of inspiration

Nowadays Mucha is famous all over the world. The graceful lines and beautifully stylised motifs lend themselves perfectly to application on all kinds of objects. Think of beautiful tapestries in which brilliant gold lurex thread is woven. Mucha's Art Nouveau images are enchantingly beautiful when accompanied by candlelight. Wonderfully romantic are the various tea light holders, glass lanterns and candles. Unique jewellery inspired by Mucha is ideal as a gift. Other articles are not only decorative but also extremely practical. Like a mug or paperweight.
