Glass Vase Orchid

The orchid, one of the most depicted flowers in Art Nouveau. The orchid was the symbol of femininity and sensuality and was associated with the idea of ​​luxury and exoticism. It was also seen as a symbol of love and beauty.

The satin finish of the vase is thanks to a process by the French glassmaker and furniture designer Émile Gallé. Applied glass contains an etched representation with different colors between two layers. This is applied with a special paint. After immersing the image in acid, the second layer of color can be 'etched away'. This process can be further repeated until the third color layer.
