Mathematical piece of art based on the original work of the artist Maurits Conelis Escher (1898 - 1972): Globe with fish, in beech wood, 1940.
The sculpture shows the systematic division of planes based on a triple rotation. Escher was fascinated by Japanese wood carvings. This is why he started transposing motifs on wooden globes. The globe knows no limits and is perfect for his 'infinite' systems. The Globe with fish was Escher's first globe-relief and it was also his personal favourite.
